Dr. William R. Deans

I have been a faculty member at Duke for 30 years, specializing in the care of patients with epilepsy or sleep disorders. During that time, I have seen tremendous progress in the treatments available in both areas, and I remain excited about being able to provide those advances to my patients. I have also recently gained a personal perspective, having been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, and becoming a dedicated CPAP user myself. My primary goal as a physician is to provide excellent care to patients with epilepsy. I have a background in mathematics. We live in a time where technology has an major influence on our lives. While I am very interested in helping influence this, there is something about people listening to people that cannot be duplicated. Much of my current work focuses on veterans, and it is with much gratitude that I do this. As a general neurologist, I see and treat patients with a variety of neurological problems. During my residency at Duke I became particularly interested in seizure disorders, and completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship focused on the diagnosis and management of epilepsy.
