Dr David Jayakar received his medical degree with honors atMadras Medical College in Madras, India and immigrated tothe United States in 1991. Shortly thereafter, he completedhis surgical residency at SUNY-Downstate, NY. He thenonward completed his fellowship at the University ofArizona, Tucson. He began his practice at the University ofChicago and entered private practise since 2003.Dr Jayakar is certified by the American Board of ThoracicSurgery and General Surgery. He pioneered performing Nonsternotomy cardiac surgeries on a beating heart. He also introduced Beating heart valvesurgeries and is credited to have a large series of patients who have benefited from hisprocedures. He briefly worked at St Vincent's hospital and performed many Beating heartprocedures benefiting many patients and families.After successfully launching the program he relocated to Longview, Texas to start an adultcardiac surgical program specializing in minimally invasive cardiac, vascular and thoracicsurgery. Under his leadership the program grew 370 % over a span of 5 years and attractspatients from various cities and towns. He developed the “Second opinion program” andpatients who did not have options in other institutions travel to get a “Second opinion”.Repeatedly they have had good outcomes from surgical procedures and currently Dr Jayakarhas plans to expand his offices to nearby cities and state.
