Dr. David V. Jayakar

Dr David Jayakar received his medical degree with honors at

Madras Medical College in Madras, India and immigrated to

the United States in 1991. Shortly thereafter, he completed

his surgical residency at SUNY-Downstate, NY. He then

onward completed his fellowship at the University of

Arizona, Tucson. He began his practice at the University of

Chicago and entered private practise since 2003.

Dr Jayakar is certified by the American Board of Thoracic

Surgery and General Surgery. He belongs to numerous

medical professional societies and is the recipient of

numerous awards. Dr Jayakar has had various positions of

leadership in hospital programs. He has performed many

innovative life saving surgical procedures that has benefited

many patients.

At University of Chicago he perfected Beating Heart surgery

and have trained many surgeons to perform the same. As a

Director at St Catherine Hospital, East Chicago he introduced

High risk cardiac surgery, Beating heart bypass surgery, Minimally invasive Valve surgery and

Arrhythmia surgery. He performed the world’s first RF ablation on a beating heart using Cobra

Adhere to cure Atrial Fibrillation in the United States. He pioneered performing Non

sternotomy cardiac surgeries on a beating heart. He also introduced Beating heart valve

surgeries and is credited to have a large series of patients who have benefited from his

procedures. He briefly worked at St Vincent's hospital and performed many Beating heart

procedures benefiting many patients and families.

After successfully launching the program he relocated to Longview, Texas to start an adult

cardiac surgical program specializing in minimally invasive cardiac, vascular and thoracic

surgery. Under his leadership the program grew 370 % over a span of 5 years and attracts

patients from various cities and towns. He developed the “Second opinion program” and

patients who did not have options in other institutions travel to get a “Second opinion”.

Repeatedly they have had good outcomes from surgical procedures and currently Dr Jayakar

has plans to expand his offices to nearby cities and state. To date, he has performed over 2000

beating heart cardiothoracic surgeries. Many years he has achieved 0% mortality for bypass

surgeries. As one of the world’s leading experts in beating heart surgery, he is frequently an

invited speaker for various national, international scientific meetings. Dr Jayakar has traveled

the world offering his services and guidance to surgeons and institutions willing to engage in

minimally invasive cardiac procedures and establishing world renowned cardiac surgical

programs. The hospital under his leadership and collaboration with Cardiology has the largest

series of TAVI, Mitraclip TVARs and complex Endo AAA.
