
Overview
Matthew Rae, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in treating complex shoulder, hip and knee conditions through a range of surgical procedures, including minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and joint replacement surgery. He treats ligament, tendon, meniscal, labral and cartilage injuries of the shoulder, hip and knee. Dr. Rae focuses particularly on advanced reconstructive surgeries of the shoulder, such as tendon transfers, shoulder arthroplasty and revision shoulder replacements.|“I believe I have the best job in the world,” says Dr. Rae. “Helping patients regain mobility and reduce pain so they can live life to the fullest is incredibly rewarding. There’s no better feeling!”|Dr. Rae earned his medical degree from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center, where he was chief resident of education. Then he completed a fellowship at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas in Greenville, S.C., honing his skills in cutting-edge techniques for joint preservation and sports medicine.|As a former Division I football player and two-year captain of his team, Dr. Rae says his path to orthopaedics was shaped by his own experience with sports injuries. “I know firsthand how life-changing excellent orthopaedic care can be. It’s what inspired me to become a surgeon.”|Now practicing not far from his hometown of York, Pa., Dr. Rae works with athletes of all levels and serves as an assistant team physician for several high school, college and professional sports teams.|When he’s not in the operating room, Dr. Rae enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, hunting, fishing or playing golf. He also treasures family time with his wife and their three daughters.|Dr. Rae is accepting new patients and looks forward to helping them get back to doing what they love, pain-free.
