
Overview
Houstonian Phillip David Applegate, Jr., DPM, graduated with his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in College Station and went on to earn his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine from the Arizona School of Podiatric Medicine at Midwestern University in Glendale. There, he co-authored a study on the endoscopic management of intermetatarsal neuromas, which was published in the “Open Journal of Orthopedics.” He was also active nationally with the American Podiatric Medical Students’ Association, where he served as national president. Dr. David Applegate went on to complete a three-year foot and ankle surgical residency during which he trained for a year in Ohio at the Cleveland Clinic and received two years of extensive surgical training in foot and ankle surgery at the Surgical Hospital of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. After graduating from his residency program, Dr. Applegate moved back to the Greater Houston area, where he founded Texas Foot and Ankle Specialists in 2016. He is proud to provide quality foot and ankle care in the heart of Katy to patients living in Barker, Cypress, Fulshear, Houston, Katy and Richmond. His is an Associate with the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS). Dr. Applegate believes that communication and transparency should be the cornerstone of patient relations, and prides himself on providing every patient with a full array of conservative and surgical treatment options. He provides empathetic, exceptional care and creates positive relationships with patients in a warm, relaxed setting. Patients enjoy quick and easy scheduling as well as a transparent payment system. In his free time, he enjoys life in the Katy area with his wife and his two children, as well as fishing and running with his golden retriever. Dr. Applegate treats many Spanish-speaking patients and has multiple in-office bilingual assistants available to help with translations, as needed.

Dr. James Jacobs earned his undergraduate degree in biology from State University of New York School of Arts and Sciences (SUNY Potsdam) and his podiatric medical degree from Temple College of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his surgical residency at Doctors Hospital (now United Memorial Medical Center) in Houston. In practice since 1989, Dr. Jacobs is board certified in podiatric surgery and a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of foot and ankle disorders resulting from disease or injury. He also treats bunions, neuroma, plantar fasciitis, athlete’s foot, foot pain, calluses and hammer toes. Dr. Jacobs is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, the Texas Podiatric Medical Association and the Harris County Podiatric Medical Society, of which he is a past president. With his philosophy of comprehensive foot care combined with state-of-the-art technology, he strives to create an unsurpassed standard of excellence in patient care. Dr. Jacobs is an active member of the Greater Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and the Katy Rotary Club and has held leadership positions in both organizations. He also serves as coordinator of the Katy Triathlon and volunteers for the Houston Tenneco Marathon, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and Houston Health Care for the Homeless.
