Overview
Dr. Samantha Shirk always wanted to be a doctor, a desire that intensified as she went through multiple orthopedic surgeries as a high school soccer player. She really liked the prospect of helping people through education and various options for treatment or management of an illness. In medical school, she discovered a passion for obstetrics, especially working with complex issues. As a maternal fetal medicine specialist, Dr. Shirk focuses on diagnosing, monitoring and managing complications in pregnant mothers and their unborn children. She has a particular interest in maternal sleep and invasive placentation management. She believes in educating her patients about their conditions, options and what they can do personally. She encourages everyone to learn more about their bodies to understand the impact of daily living on long-term health. A native of Louisville, KY, Dr. Shirk and her husband are excited to start their new family in Cincinnati. She volunteered with an animal rescue as a resident and looks forward to continuing that work. She also enjoys exercise – especially Peloton workouts – and craft beer.
Her top areas of expertise are Premature Infant, Gestational Diabetes, Intraventricular Hemorrhage of the Newborn, and Polyhydramnios.
Her clinical research consists of co-authoring 3 peer reviewed articles. MediFind looks at clinical research from the past 15 years.
