Overview

Dr. Thomas Clements earned his medical degree in Canada from the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, where he also finished his internship and residency in general surgery. He completed a fellowship in trauma surgery, abdominal wall reconstruction and burn surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. Board certified in general surgery, Dr. Clements treats patients ages 16 and older and also speaks Spanish. His primary clinical interests include trauma, complex abdominal wall reconstruction, hernia and burn surgery. His fellowship training in both trauma and abdominal wall reconstruction gives Dr. Clements detailed knowledge of the aspects of a patient’s care, from treating the initial trauma to future reconstruction. He combines evidence- and research-based academic practice to provide a full range of care, from emergency care to long-term follow-up. Ongoing practice in both acute care and elective surgery gives Dr. Clements extensive exposure to different pathologies and anatomic areas, as well as both minimally invasive and open techniques. A member of the UTHealth Houston faculty, he also is a member of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma and active in trauma and abdominal wall reconstruction research. Away from his practice, Dr. Clements enjoys outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting and archery.

His clinical expertise encompasses Low Blood Pressure, Venous Thromboembolism (VTE), Traumatic Brain Injury, Secondary Peritonitis, and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery.

He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 39 peer reviewed articles.
