Over time, my practice has evolved into a mixture of caring for injury-related conditions and degenerative conditions. My practice now focuses on the care and treatment of conditions of the hip. In the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in hip arthroscopic techniques. I treat fractures and dislocations of the hip and pelvis, osteotomy for dysplasia and deformity of the hip, and arthroscopy of sports and degenerative injuries of the hip. I perform hip replacement when it is indicated. I was born and raised in Missouri. As a boy, I worked in my father's service station. Neither of my parents attended college, and I am the first person in my family to enter the medical field. The values of hard work and commitment to continual personal improvement are lessons from my youth. I began my practice at Duke in 2000. Dr. Olson is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. His top areas of expertise are Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia, Synovitis, Osteoarthritis, Osteotomy, and Hip Replacement.

I am an orthopaedic physician and work in adult reconstructive orthopaedics, predominantly with hip- and knee-replacement surgeries. I also help manage revision surgeries and take care of people with infections or fractures around their implants. I am interested in the whole continuum of care for arthritis and not just the surgical treatment of it. Even though I specialize in surgery, not everyone needs that treatment, and as an orthopaedic doctor, my role is to help direct the whole process. The care around revision surgeries at other centers is tertiary and many times not at the same place, but here at Duke we treat patients every step of the way at the same practice and have access to the latest treatments. Dr. Jiranek is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. His top areas of expertise are Osteoarthritis, Infectious Arthritis, Septic Arthritis, Knee Replacement, and Hip Replacement.

So much of life’s experiences and enjoyment comes from movement, and I have made it my mission to help children live their best lives through improved physical function. I enjoy getting to know both the patient and their guardians and believe shared decision making is the best way to optimize outcomes. This entails taking the whole child, family situation, and goals into consideration and coming up with a strategy together that makes the most sense. I have specialized interest and experience treating developmental hip dysplasia and a variety of leg deformities including those that are crooked, twisted, or too short. With these conditions, we are beginning with a structure that isn’t normal and working to make it better than it could have been without intervention. Even thinking about having surgery can be nerve wracking for children and their families alike, but my team and I will be with you every step of the way. Her top areas of expertise are Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis, Congenital Radioulnar Synostosis, Sprengel Deformity, Accessory Navicular Bone, and Osteotomy.

Childhood should be one of the most enjoyable times of our lives, full of happy memories and enriching experiences. Despite their innocence, children are often faced with difficulties and limitations as they grow. Whether it be scoliosis, hip dysplasia, limb deformity and fractures, or neuromuscular conditions, no child ever asks to be brought to the doctor’s office. My passion for pediatric orthopaedics developed from a desire to help children overcome these obstacles and allow them to return to what they enjoy doing most and experience a care-free childhood. My goal is to support and guide patients and families through their treatment courses, from start to finish, through a shared decision-making approach. What makes pediatric orthopaedics so special to me is the relationships that form with families as we work together over time, sometimes from infancy through adolescence. There are few things more rewarding then seeing children witness their own capabilities. Dr. Catanzano is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia. His top areas of expertise are Scoliosis, Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, Kyphosis, Osteotomy, and Spinal Fusion.

What is the definition of Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia?

Beukes hip dysplasia (BHD) is a rare inherited skeletal dysplasia affecting the hip joint. In general, skeletal dysplasias are a group of disorders which affect the bone and cartilage. Skeletal dysplasias are more commonly known as types of dwarfism, but not all skeletal dysplasias cause a person to be short in height. In fact, BHD only affects the hip joint. A person with BHD is similar in height to other family members. There are no other health problems associated with BHD. Beukes hip dysplasia (BHD) causes severe progressive degenerative osteoarthritis of the hip joint in early adulthood. Symptoms of hip joint pain and discomfort usually begin in infancy or later childhood, but may also begin as late as the mid-30s. Severity of the condition varies even among family members. In fact some people who inherit the change in the gene which causes BHD never develop any problems with their hip joint. After symptoms begin, the characteristic signs of secondary osteoarthritis (including bone sclerosis, cyst formation and narrowing of the joint space) develop and the joint deteriorates rapidly. As of 2015, BHD has only been found in relatives of a single family in South Africa who were of European descent. BHD has affected many generations and members of this family. Family members with BHD now live in other parts of the world as well.

When should I see a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in North Carolina, US?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in North Carolina, US?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctors in North Carolina, US?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctors in North Carolina, US?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in North Carolina, US?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor in North Carolina, US?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctors in North Carolina, US?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Beukes Familial Hip Dysplasia doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
