Overview
George LeBus, MD is a highly regarded orthopaedic shoulder and sports medicine surgeon in Fort Worth, Texas. His background and training allow him to treat a wide range of conditions affecting athletes and patients of all ages with both nonsurgical and surgical techniques. He has specific expertise in restorative and reconstructive procedures of the shoulder as well as the knee and in the treatment of sports-related conditions and fractures. He then pursued his undergraduate studies at Harvard University where he played football and was a member of the 2001 undefeated Ivy League championship team. Following his undergraduate degree, Dr. LeBus returned home to Texas for medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas where he earned the distinction of the first individual to receive the two highest honors bestowed upon a graduate. He earned both the Iatros award, a peer-voted honor to recognize excellence in patient care and teamwork, and the Ho Din Award, the most prestigious recognition for a graduate who exemplifies the personal qualities embodied in the physician – knowledge, understanding, and compassion. Dr. LeBus then completed his internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee and his fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the internationally renowned Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado. This specialized training gave him the opportunity to refine his surgical techniques with world-expert physicians and care for patients and athletes of all ages and skill levels, including Olympians and professional athletes from the NFL, NHL, MLB, and NBA. His research pursuits during his time earned him the Steadman Clinic Fellow Award for Outstanding Research. Dr. LeBus is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the American Shoulder and Elbow Society. He is also a proud Texan and native of Fort Worth and a member of the Texas Medical Association and Tarrant County Medical Society. He has published numerous book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals on a variety of topics which have been presented at multiple national and international meetings. He continues to contribute to the care of athletes of all ages and skill levels serving as team physician for various athletic programs as well as the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. Dr. LeBus lives in Fort Worth, Texas with his wife and two children. Roger H. Emerson, M.D., comes from a family of physicians. His father was an obstetrician and his grandfather a general surgeon. It was very natural for me to pursue medicine, he says.What made me want to pursue orthopedics was seeing the excellent results my father experienced when he had total hip surgery. While I was in college, my father's hip became increasingly uncomfortable, and he was unable to ski with the family or play ball with his kids. After his surgery, he was like a new man.Emerson completed his undergraduate education at Dartmouth College, his medical education at Yale Medical School, and orthopedic studies at Harvard. He was the chief resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a fellow in reconstructive surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston.He is certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, and is a member of both the Knee Society and Hip Society, highly-selective organizations made up of the most prestigious joint surgeons in the United States. He has served as the director of the Joint Institute at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, and is active in teaching and research.Emerson's focus is on primary hip and knee surgery, especially less-invasive techniques. He also has advanced training in the area of complicated hip and knee revision surgery.After completing his undergraduate work in engineering at Michigan State University, and his medical training at Wayne State in Michigan, he studied orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Harvard Combined Orthopedic surgery training program in Boston, Mass. His fellowships included joint replacement surgery at Brigham and Women's at Massachusetts General Hospitals in Boston. There he studied hip, knee and shoulder replacement techniques and participated in a study of a new type of total ankle implant that improves motion with less bone loss than current methods. He was appointed as a clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School during his stay there.Reitman believes in joint preservation surgery. He offers many surgeries that are designed for people whose joint disease is not advanced enough for total joint surgery, but causes them enough discomfort that they are ready for treatment. These techniques include arthroscopy and osteotomy, as well as other procedures.
