
Overview
Megan Cortazzo, MD, is a physiatrist and is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation. She is the medical director of Clinical Documentation Improvement and the medical director for Health Information Management for UPMC. Prior to that role, she served as vice clinical chair of outpatient services where she helped expand the spine intervention and pain program. She is also an assistant professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she received her medical degree in 2001. She completed her residency at UPMC, followed by her pain medicine fellowship at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Cortazzo’s clinical interests include providing a wholistic approach to non-operative musculoskeletal conditions through excellent nutrition, exercise, and psychology. As part of her academic mission, she teaches fellows, residents, and medical students. She has presented nationally on clinical documentation improvement (CDI), developing workflows to improve patient diagnosis capture and reduce physician burnout, partnerships with inpatient coding and quality teams, as well as clinical topics, such as sepsis, that affect inpatient hospital coding and quality metrics. She also serves on hospital and system wide committees, including those that address physician credentialing and health information management. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR), Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS), American Health Information Management Association, and American Board Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR).
