Dr. James McEachern is a board-certified Neurointerventional Radiologist with extensive expertise in the minimally invasive treatment of complex cerebrovascular conditions, including brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), carotid artery disease, intracranial atherosclerotic disease and acute ischemic stroke. He currently practices at IFMC, the largest interventional stroke center in Northern Virginia, where he plays a central role in delivering endovascular care to a high-volume and diverse patient population.
Dr. McEachern specializes in advanced neurointerventional procedures, including endovascular coiling, flow diversion, intracranial stenting, AVM embolization, venous stenting, carotid stenting, and mechanical thrombectomy for large-vessel occlusion strokes. Dr. Philippe Gailloud is an Associate Professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Radiology and Radiological Science, Department of Neurology and Department of Neurological Surgery. Among his main areas of specialization are the development of interventional techniques, the percutaneous treatment of brain, spinal cord, and spine lesions, and the anatomy and embryology of the cerebral vasculature. Besides the diagnosis and treatment of cerebrovascular diseases in adult patients, Dr. Gailloud also focuses on the management of neurovascular disorders in children. Dr. Gailloud received his medical degree from the University of Geneva, Switzerland, in 1991, and completed his residency in diagnostic and interventional radiology at Geneva University Hospital in 1998. He completed a research fellowship in morphology at the University of Geneva in 1994, and clinical fellowships in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology at Johns Hopkins. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2000. Dr. Gailloud has published more than 250 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 25 book chapters on a wide range of topics related to diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. This includes venous and lymphatic malformations, arteriovenous malformations, pulmonary arteriovenous malformations and Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) and varicoceles. Dr. Weiss also is a pioneer in the use of MRI for interventional guidance (iMRI), especially for the treatment of vascular malformations. Dr. Weiss' research focuses primarily on the preclinical and clinical development of Bariatric Embolization, a new endovascular procedure designed to help fight obesity, and on the development of new embolic therapies and devices. Dr. Weiss is the Deputy Editor of Interventional Content for the journal Radiology. Dr. Weiss received his B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1995, his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2001. He completed an internship in internal medicine on the Osler Service in 2002, his residency in Diagnostic Radiology in 2007, and a Fellowship in Vascular and Interventional radiology in 2008, all at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a Fellow both of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe (CIRSE).
