Overview
Matthew S. Katz, MD, is a fellowship-trained interventional cardiologist with Atlantic Medical Group. Board-certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, he has expertise treating patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions using small, flexible tubes called catheters to detect, reach and repair damaged or weakened vessels, open blockages in narrowed arteries, and insert stents to keep the arteries open.Dr. Katz believes in providing compassionate care to his patients using minimally invasive techniques to treat coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease, valvular heart disease, and structural heart disease. These techniques prevent the need for open-heart surgery, reducing risks and leading to a faster recovery for patients.Dr. Katz earned his medical degree from Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, Hempstead, NY, where he was named to the Gold Humanism Honor Society for compassion and excellence in medicine and to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medicine Honor Society for academic performance. He performed his internal medicine residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he was named chief resident. He followed that with a clinical cardiology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, and then a second fellowship in interventional cardiology at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, also in New York.The author of multiple publications in peer-reviewed medical journals, Dr. Katz has also participated in research on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and kidney disease and transcatheter mitral valve replacement. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
