
Overview
Sarah Podwika, MD, is an OB-GYN who specializes in caring for patients with gynecologic cancers, including uterine, ovarian, cervical, vulvar and vaginal. Throughout her academic career, she received numerous grants and scholarships, such as the Peyton T. Taylor Endowed Research Scholarship for innovative research strategies. She was also recognized for her excellence in teaching, teamwork and patient care with multiple awards.|Committed to advancing the field of obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Podwika's research interests include cervical cancer testing and healthcare reimbursement for gynecologic procedures. She has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and has volunteered and conducted research in countries like Rwanda, Tanzania, and Guatemala.|Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Podwika worked as a certified public accountant. When she's not attending to her hospital duties, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and children. She is excited to be back in central Pennsylvania, where she was raised.

UPMC Gynecologic Oncology
Joshua Kesterson, MD, is a fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist and medical director of the gynecologic oncology program at UPMC in Central Pa. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri and completed his residency in obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health at the University of Louisville, followed by his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and gynecologic oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Kesterson’s clinical interests include gynecologic oncology such as ovarian, cervical, and endometrial cancer, immunotherapy, and HPV, and his research interests include quality improvement, ovarian cancer, and endometrial carcinoma. He is a member of the Society for Gynecologic Oncologists, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer, and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He serves as the chief of gynecologic oncology.|Dr. Purinton’s clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery techniques, which allow for quicker recovery time in the treatment of cancerous and noncancerous diseases of the female reproductive system; new chemotherapeutic protocols and targeted therapeutics in treating gynecologic cancers; ovarian cancer screening for early detection; improving quality of life for women with gynecologic cancers; and molecular profiling to lessen the chance of recurrence of gynecologic cancers.|Dr. Purinton earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Purinton also holds a doctor of philosophy degree in physiology.
