Dr. Cynthia Ann Moylan

I am proud to serve as the Chief of the Duke Division of Gastroenterology. In addition to my administrative duties, I enjoy my clinical practice focused on the care of patients with liver diseases. I also continue to participate in clinical research and hope that these studies offer our patients the latest advances and treatment options. I remain involved in clinical research and am interested in the role of nutritional wellness in patients with liver disease and those awaiting transplant. When not working, my wife and I are busy with our two daughters. My love for them reminds me of the importance of care for others. I see patients with chronic liver diseases. I have a clinical and research interest in metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease, formerly known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. I am interested in identifying patients at high risk for MASLD, who as a result can develop liver inflammation, liver scarring, and cirrhosis. My passion is to develop care pathways for patients with MASLD and liver fibrosis to specialty care, create sustainable multidisciplinary and lifestyle programs and provide therapeutic options on the horizon. I also have expertise in the medical management of obesity that I incorporate into my liver practice to care for my patients with liver diseases.
