Dr. Allison L. Agwu, MD, ScM, FAAP, FIDSA is Professor of pediatric and adult infectious diseases at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her clinical interests include HIV/AIDS and infectious disease. Dr. Agwu earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She completed a residency in pediatrics and internal medicine at Case Western Reserve University (University Hospitals of Cleveland/ Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital), and a combined fellowship in pediatric and adult infectious diseases at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Agwu's clinical and research interests focuses on children, adolescents, and young adults who are at-risk or living with HIV and their families. Clinically, she provides inpatient and outpatient pediatric infectious diseases' consultations and leads the Pediatric Adolescent HIV/AIDS Program, which provides multidisciplinary for those living with or affected by HIV. Further, she leads the young adult transition clinic, the Accessing Care Early (ACE) Clinic. Both programs are longstanding Ryan White Federal Grant-funded programs. Her overarching research goal is to decipher, address, and minimize disparities in treatment and outcomes for those living with HIV. Toward this goal, she oversees her own independent, longstanding, federally funded clinical research program and serves as principal investigator of the Johns Hopkins sites of the International Maternal, Pediatric, and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Network and the Adolescent Trials' Network (ATN). Her research interests include optimizing outcomes for youth at-risk for and living with HIV, management and treatment strategies, and minimizing disparities in the use of antiretroviral therapy (ART) and outcomes. Other special interests include epidemiologic approaches to HIV, drug resistance, and clinical trials. She is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Agwu is Chair of the HIV Medicine Association.
