She then furthered her training through a one-year Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care fellowship at UPMC Children’s. Dr. Morell’s career has focused on acute care cardiology and complex congenital heart diseases including single-ventricle physiology. Since her appointment as an assistant professor of Pediatrics in 2011, Dr. Morell has transformed the inpatient general cardiology service at Children’s. She sought advanced training in quality improvement methodology, helped to develop a general cardiology quality improvement program at Children’s, and established herself as a local and national leader in quality improvement. Her current research focus is on quality improvement with projects focused on improving patient care in the acute care and outpatient settings. She is a member of the American Heart Association, the Pennsylvania Chapter of Osteopathic Physicians-District VIII, the Pediatric Acute Cardiology Care Collaborative, and the PAC3 Quality Improvement Subcommittee, as well as an executive member of the Pediatric Acute Cardiology Care Collaborative.
