Martin Wijkstrom, MD, is an abdominal transplant surgeon. He is an associate professor of surgery and is the director of Islet Cell Transplantation and the Abdominal Transplant Fellowship Program at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Wijkstrom received his medical degree from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and spent three years at the University of Minnesota doing preclinical research in islet xenotransplantation. After completing a general surgery residency at Emory University, he did a fellowship in abdominal transplantation at Northwestern University.
