While there, he developed an orthopedic sports medicine practice and became an expert in arthroscopically treating orthopedic injuries and disorders as well as complex pediatric spine and limb deformities. Prior to that, he served for four years as the director of Pediatric Orthopaedics at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Tis also served for 23 years in the active duty and reserve military including four wartime deployments where he treated high-energy war wounds and limb defects. He served as chief of Orthopaedics at Ibn Sina Hospital (“Baghdad ER”) during Operation Iraqi Freedom.Dr. Tis is a member of numerous professional societies including the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, Arthroscopy Association of North America and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
