
Overview
Veena Venkat, MD, is a gastroenterologist at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and an associate professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She is board-certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology by the American Board of Pediatrics. Dr. Venkat received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Pediatrics and her fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Dr. Venkat's clinical and research interest is in pediatric liver disease and liver transplant. She is a co-investigator in the multicenter Childhood Liver Disease Research Network consortium. She has worked collaboratively to further understand the natural history and outcomes of children with cholestatic liver diseases with a focus on biliary atresia. In addition, she has collaborated on studies of primary sclerosing cholangitis, Alagille syndrome, alpha-one antitrypsin deficiency and PFIC. Her work with the liver transplant program has included involvement in the Immunosuppression Withdrawal for Stable Pediatric Liver Transplant Recipients trial, with a focus on long-term graft health, safety outcomes, and reversibility of rejection during immunosuppression withdrawal. She is a member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition, the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, and the American Society of Transplantation.
