He graduated from Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest in basic sciences and in the clinical training of classic diagnostic methods. After passing the ECFMG Basic and Clinical Sciences tests on two consecutive days in 1991, Dr. Menczelesz immigrated to the US in 1992 and started his American postgraduate training in the same year. In 1995, after the completion of the 3 years of internal medicine residency program at Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, Dr. Menczelesz stayed for another 2 years at the same institution as an assistant attending in internal medicine.
