Dr. Ralph T. Reach
Overview
Dr. Ralph Thomas Reach, MD — known to many patients and colleagues as Dr. Tom Reach, or simply Doctor Tom — is a physician trained in Addiction Medicine and Family Medicine, with decades of experience helping patients recover from substance use disorders. He practiced emergency medicine for more than 20 years in the coalfields of Central Appalachia, an area often described as ground zero for the opioid epidemic.
In recovery himself for decades, Dr. Reach is an active member of the recovery community and a passionate advocate for patient rights, evidence-based medication-assisted treatment, expansion of access to care, enforcement of parity laws, and criminal justice reform for those struggling with addiction.
He served on the Legislative Committee of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) for four years and is a past president of the Tennessee Society of Addiction Medicine. In 2012, he became board-certified in Addiction Medicine, further strengthening his expertise in treating substance use disorders.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Dr. Reach is licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina and is registered with the DEA to prescribe controlled substances, including Suboxone, for the treatment of opioid use disorder.
