Dr. Keshav Khanijow (he/him) is a Physician and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, with a strong track record in clinical care, research, and advocacy, particularly in LGBTQ+ health. He currently practices as a hospitalist at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (JHBMC), where he specializes in diagnosing and treating hospitalized patients and ensuring safe discharge planning. Recognized for his clinical excellence, he received the JHBMC Hospital Medicine Clinical Excellence Award (2019) and was named JHBMC Hospitalist of the Year (2022). Dr. Khanijow's commitment to health equity began early in his career. Following a research fellowship at the FDA’s Office of Women’s Health, he attended medical school at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he co-led the UCSF LGBTQ+ Health Forum (2011, 2012) and developed HIV prevention materials for the Ecuadorian LGBTQ+ Rights NGO, Equidad (2014). He completed his Internal Medicine residency at JHBMC (2014–2017) and a fellowship in Hospital Medicine (2017–2018). An advocate for equitable care for LGBTQ+ patients, Dr. Khanijow has collaborated with the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM) to develop national educational resources for inpatient providers. He has lectured internationally and published on topics related to transgender health in hospital settings. His leadership in this area has earned him the SHM Award of Excellence in Leadership within Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (2025). Dr. Khanijow serves as the Division Director of Patient Safety for Hospital Medicine at JHBMC and chairs the SHM Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Special Interest Group.
