Prior to going into medicine, he worked as a Development Engineer and helped to develop medical devices at UC San Diego and at the NASA Ames Research Center. Dr. Groppo subsequently received his medical training at The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. He then returned to California where he completed his residency in Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. His research has been published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented at national meetings around the country.Dr. Groppo has served in various leadership positions at Sacramento area hospitals and physician associations. He is currently the Chief of Surgery at Mercy General Hospital and the Chief of Otolaryngology with Hill Physicians. He serves as clinical faculty for the Dignity Family Medicine Residency Program.
