Dr. Allison Spitzer is a board-certified pediatric orthopaedic surgeon in New York City.Dr. Spitzer completed her residency training at King s County Hospital / SUNY Downstate Medical center, where she was a chief resident. She subsequently completed her pediatric orthopaedic surgery fellowship at Children s Healthcare of Atlanta at Atlanta Scottish Rite, one of the highest volume centers for scoliosis surgery in the country, which has prepared her to treat scoliosis and spine deformity patients of all backgrounds and etiologies. Dr. Spitzer s research focuses on orthopaedic resident education, trauma, and scoliosis surgery, and she has written a chapter about multi-specialty clinics for orthopaedic patients with soft tissue and bone sarcomas. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA), and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS), which focuses on supporting and mentoring women in orthopaedics. She was selected to serve on national committees for both POSNA and RJOS.In college at Yale University, Dr. Spitzer was named an Academic All-American from 2004-2007 while playing on the Varsity Field Hockey team. She majored in Behavioral Neuroscience while completing her pre-medical studies and serving an elected position on the Yale Senior Class Council. In medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine, she provided medical care to patients living in rural parts of Haiti as part of a medical mission with Project Medishare. Dr. Spitzer is also a certified yoga teacher instructor.
