Overview
Wen Shen is an associate professor of clinical gynecology and an associate professor in the Johns Hopkins Medicine Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics as well as joint appointmetns in the Kimmel Oncology Center and the Department of General Internal Medicine. She is also the clinical director of the Menopause Consultation service and the director of the Women’s Wellness & Healthy Aging Program. Dr. Shen has concentrated on menopause medicine for more than 20 years. She specializes in treating peri-menopause and menopausal symptoms taking into consideration the woman’s overall health. She often works with her patients’ primary care provider to recommend non-hormonal therapies, alternative treatment options and menopause hormone therapy as appropriate for the individual patient. In addition to clinical care, Dr. Shen focuses on educating her patients, other physicians and future physicians on women’s post reproductive health. She is actively developing curricula and educational aids for future physicians and health care providers on menopause medicine and the importance of healthy aging. Dr. Shen has published numerous articles and book chapters on menopause and perimenopause. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and had served on the Board of Trustees for the North American Menopause Society. Dr. Shen earned her Master’s in Public Health and her Medical Degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. During the 18 years Dr. Shen spent in general practice she became aware of the lack of physician education on post-reproductive health in women. Since her 2005 return to Johns Hopkins, she has committed herself to raising awareness of menopausal and post-reproductive health in women to help them stay their healthiest beginning in peri-menopause and as they age. JH Health Care & Surgery Center – White Marsh
Dr. Borahay is the Director of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. He specializes in robotic and laparoscopic surgeries for complex conditions, including uterine fibroids and advanced endometriosis. Dr. Borahay performs single-site gynecologic surgery and same-day hysterectomy. Dr. Borahay's book Fibroids and Reproduction presents recent updates on fibroid treatment for clinicians. Dr. Borahay is a referral expert. He has received the Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology designation. Notably, Dr. Borahay received the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award from the John P. McGovern Academy of Oslerian Medicine. Dr. Borahay is the Principal Investigator of a multi-institutional NIH-funded study of uterine fibroid that includes a clinical trial. His research focuses on developing innovative fibroid treatments. Dr. Borahay has authored more than 50 scientific publications. Dr. James Segars is director of the Division of Reproductive Science and Women’s Health Research and a professor in the Johns Hopkins Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. He leads the Howard W. and Georgeanna Seegar Jones Laboratory of Reproductive Sciences and Women's Health Research, where he and his team focus on endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and reproductive and ovarian disorders. Dr. Segars received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and earned his M.D. from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology and a clinical fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Segars performed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Laboratory of Molecular Growth Regulation at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. He joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2015. Before coming to Johns Hopkins, Dr. Segars was head of the Unit on Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. Dr. Segars has published more than 160 peer-reviewed research articles and serves on the editorial boards of Reproductive Sciences, Molecular Human Reproduction, Seminars in Reproductive Medicine, and Fertility and Sterility.
