Overview
I work in rheumatology, which involves taking care of patients with autoimmune diseases and inflammatory arthritis. I love my field because of the complex processes but most importantly, because it is rewarding to help my patients and be able to develop close relationships with them. I strive to understand how patients are impacted in their daily lives by their condition. Clear communication is key in our field with our patients and all of the doctors on the care team. I treat people with all types of autoimmune disease, but also have a special interest in inflammatory eye disease and work in the Duke Eye Center with ophthalmologists to take care of these patients. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, playing tennis and watching sports . I am from Kentucky and have lived in many states and am looking forward to taking care of patients in North Carolina.

I am a board-certified rheumatologist who provides consultative care for patients with a wide variety of musculoskeletal and autoimmune diseases. My training and experience have provided me with the ability to evaluate and treat complex illnesses and work closely with your primary care provider to achieve the best possible outcomes. In addition to patient care, I spend about half of my time doing clinical research. Throughout my research career, I have focused on the development of novel therapies for various rheumatologic diseases, including primary Sjögren’s syndrome, vasculitis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
