
Overview
Ahmed Halima, MD, is a radiation oncologist dedicated to treating patients with cancer of all kinds, including brain and spine, head and neck, skin, breast, lung and thoracic malignancies, gastrointestinal malignancies, esophageal, liver, gastric, rectal, anal, sarcoma, pediatric malignancies, genitourinary, kidney, prostate, bladder, penile, testicular, gynecological, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and thyroid cancers.|Dr. Halima is skilled in various cancer treatments and radiation therapies, including: external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), brain and spine stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), palliative radiotherapy, prostate and gynecologic low-dose rate brachytherapy; radioisotope therapy, intravascular brachytherapy and total body irradiation. He has a clinical interest in the applications of radiotherapy in treating benign conditions.|His dedication to patient care, clinical excellence, professionalism and compassion have been recognized through the Jerrold Saxton Award for Clinical Excellence and the Bruce Hubbard Award for Humanistic Medicine. Dr. Halima values the opportunity to build lasting relationships with his patients and their families. “To me, there is nothing that I found more meaningful than service to others and being a strong advocate for the ill,” he says. “I learned of the satisfaction of service through the example of my parents, both of whom are doctors. This shaped my decision to go into medical school.”|Originally from Egypt, Dr. Halima earned his medical degree and moved to the United States to pursue his passion for oncology. He took a position in a translational lab at Cornell University, followed by a residency in radiation oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Halima says he was “drawn to Geisinger” because of its mission and culture of excellence.|Outside of the office, he enjoys exploring the natural beauty of central Pennsylvania. Dr. Halima also likes soccer and swimming and has an interest in history.

He is vice chair and a trustee of the Pennsylvania Medical Society and has served as president of the Dauphin County Medical Society. Dr. Mackley is an investigator in the cancer therapy evaluation group of the National Cancer Institute and the Children’s Oncology Group. He is a fellow of the American College of Radiation Oncology and a member of Penn State College of Medicine’s mentoring academy.|In his free time, Dr. Mackley enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and camping.
