Alejandro Murillo, MD, is a cardiovascular surgeon, offering surgical solutions to patients with conditions related to the heart and cardiovascular system. Dr. Murillo completed medical school at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica in San Jose, Costa Rica. He then completed a research fellowship at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. and a cardiothoracic surgery residency at Duke University Hospital in Durham, N.C. Dr. Murillo is passionate about sharing his knowledge in scientific publications and received more than $150,000 in research grants for his research in cardiology. Additionally, Dr. Murillo serves as a mentor for international pre-health and graduate medical students. He is a member of the American Heart Association. Dr. Murillo is fluent in English and Spanish. When not providing care for his patients, Dr. Murillo has found a passion for medical mission trips. He is a co-founder for Duke Heart for Honduras, which seeks to help improve survival rates and quality of life for Honduran adults with acquired valvular heart disease.
His clinical expertise encompasses Heart Tumor and Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG).
Dr. Murillo is board certified in Drug Enforcement Administration , Oklahoma Bureau Of Narcotics And Dangerous Drugs , and Oklahoma State Board Of Medical Licensure & Supervision. He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 12 peer reviewed articles.
