Dr. Allen Root is a pediatric endocrinologist at JHACH. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Root completed his internship at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY and his pediatric residency at University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania. After serving on the medical faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University, Dr. Root joined the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 1973, serving as professor of pediatrics, associate and vice-chair of the Department of Pediatrics, and director of the pediatric residency program. He received the Distinguished Service Award, the Professorial Excellence Award and the Joanne and Charles Fishel Distinguished Scientist Award from USF as well as the Council C. Rudolph Award at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital. Dr. Root has served as president of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society and chaired the Florida Infant/Newborn Screening Advisory Council.
