Dr. Amanda B. Flicker

Philosophy of care | No doubt I believe that I strive to treat my patients as if they were my own family or friends. While I may see babies born every day - and in fact have seen hundreds in my career - for my patients, it may be their first so it's scary and exciting and emotional. When most people are asked what was the most important moment in their lives, a common answer is the day their children were born. I keep this in mind as I care for my patients. | Why I entered medicine | My father is a scientist and my mother a nurse, so I suppose I combined the two in my pursuit of a medical degree. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to have a career in medicine. First it was veterinary, then pediatrics, and in medical school, I found the joy of obstetrics and gynecology. The science of medicine continues to amaze me, and the human element is what makes me truly love what I do. Women of diverse backgrounds with incredible stories and journeys make this field so rewarding. | Community involvement | I was born and raised in Topton, Pa., and my husband and I are active in a local community outreach organization based there. The group organizes community events as well as raising money for local groups and community members in need. I also have school-age children, and so I try to volunteer to help in their school when I can. I can also be found with my kids in tow in 5K events in the area! | Personal interests | Since I was raised in this area, I have most of my extended family nearby so I spend quite a bit of time with them. My husband, kids and I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, biking and playing sports in the backyard. I LOVE the beach and swimming. I also enjoy reading, and especially reading on the beach! For exercise, I try to run when I can and really enjoy Zumba, which is so fun that it doesn't feel like exercise at all.
