For Amanda Dupras, healthcare is all about relationships. “It all stems from listening,” Amanda says. “I learned working at the bedside that letting the patient talk is the best way to get to the root cause of their struggle and help them get better,” she says. Amanda spent six years in cardiothoracic care at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s heart and vascular unit. She earned her bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate nursing degrees at Stockton University, Galloway. She is board certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Naturally personable and helpful, Amanda considers herself a people person. “We treat the whole person, not just the disease,” she says. In the hospital, she would often check on patients she had treated in the past, even when not assigned to them. “I’d stop to say hi and see how they’re doing. They really appreciated that,” she says. But people come and go fairly quickly in the hospital setting. While pursuing her post-graduate education, she realized that primary care would give her even more opportunities to build relationships. She treats adults with long-term conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, lung diseases and high cholesterol – plus flu, sore throat and other short-term problems. “I get to follow my patients over time and provide the screenings and education they need to keep them out of the hospital,” she says. She has lived in Mays Landing her entire life and was born at AtlantiCare. “It came full circle. I am fortunate to have phenomenal coworkers, throughout the whole organization. Even on a difficult day, they’re always pleasant, caring and willing to go out of their way to help both patients and other providers,” she says. Philosophy of Care “The most important thing is that my patients feel heard and listened to. The greatest reward is when they say thank you.” Personal Interests In her spare time she enjoys reading, photography and getting outdoors with her dog. Her other passion is crew. Rowing since she was eight, she remains active as a coach with the local club and also helps out at Oakcrest High School, where her brother leads the program.
