I can confidently say that working in primary care is my life’s work. I didn’t fully realize that until I left primary care and did a brief stint in other settings. I missed it too much! Primary care offers great variety and the opportunity to build relationships with people over time. It’s an honor and a privilege to do what I do. I think it’s important to hone in on what the primary concern is, whether it be managing symptoms, understanding the problem or being reassured that whatever it is isn’t something serious. I’ve found this is an important factor in people leaving a visit feeling heard and understood.
