Dr. Anna J. Hanson

I am a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology specialist and an obstetrics laborist at the Advanced Delivery Program at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware. Prior, I was in private practice in Mullica Hill, New Jersey for 15 years. I graduated with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance (clarinet). I attended the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University and completed my residency at Pennsylvania Hospital with the University of Penn Health System in Philadelphia. I currently reside in New Jersey with my husband, my three children and a small dog. Delivering babies has always been my very favorite job to do as a physician, even starting in my early days as a medical student. It is such a privilege to bring a new life into this world and to be part of such a wonderful moment in our patient’s lives. With my many years of experience as an obstetrician, I want to ensure that my patients have the very best labor and delivery experience possible, with the hopes that these memories of their birthing stories are happy ones. I am passionate about women’s health. I feel that it is so important to look at the overall picture of a woman’s pregnancy journey, as we obstetricians have the unique opportunity to take care of two patients, the mother and the soon-to-be born baby. My main goal in every delivery are two things: healthy mom and healthy baby. I know that the Nemours Children’s Hospital is the very best hospital for these babies with special medical diagnoses that need very specialized care at birth or shortly thereafter. The Advanced Delivery Program is a wonderful way to keep a mother with her baby in the same hospital, despite needing an ICU level of care for the baby so soon after birth.Outside of the hospital setting, I enjoy reading, crafting, my Peloton and spending time with friends and family. I want to make a difference in providing the absolute best labor and delivery experience for my patient, her baby and her support system. The birthing experience is a very personal one and here at Nemours, we are always receptive to input, doing research to improve our delivery times, our modes of delivery and improving the patient experience. We want to make sure that our patients are heard. We help provide doulas, encourage music playlists which are always a fun way to make the labor process easier, and birthing plans are always welcome. Even if the baby’s journey is not the most typical one, I want to make sure that the birthing journey is one that we work on together in our patient-physician relationship.

Her clinical expertise encompasses Vaginal Cysts, Vaginal Dryness, Gestational Diabetes, and Intrauterine Device Insertion.
