Dr. Varughese is the director of perioperative quality and safety in the Johns Hopkins All Children’s Department of Anesthesia. She joined the medical staff in 2019. She also is a professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She previously served as division chief of the Department of Anesthesiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Varughese earned her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from Andhra Medical College at Andhra University in India, and her medical degree in anesthesiology from the University of Madras, India. She completed residencies in anesthesia at the Christian Medical College Vellore hospital in India, East Birmingham and Solihull Hospitals and Birmingham Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She also completed an anesthesia research fellowship, and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She earned her master’s in public health (M.P.H.) at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University.
