Overview
As a pediatric urologist, I specialize in disorders of the kidneys, ureters, bladder, and genitalia. I medically and surgically treat all conditions in pediatric urology including undescended testicles, foreskin issues, hypospadias, vesicoureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, kidney stones, and bladder dysfunction. I am particularly passionate about helping children with complex genitourinary birth defects, neurogenic bladder/bowel due to spinal disorders such as spina bifida, and disorders of sex differentiation. Additionally, I offer minimally invasive approaches including robotic surgery. Although I meet most of my patients during childhood, I follow many through adolescence and even into adulthood building strong relationships with both them and their families. As a mother, I know how scary doctors visits especially those involving surgery, can be for children and parents. By engaging both families and children in their healthcare experience, we can work as a team creating a plan that always prioritizes the health and happiness of the patient. Being trusted to care for a child is a great privilege as I know that each child is someone’s favorite person.

My practice covers all surgical and medical aspects of pediatric urology. Common surgical problems are correction of hypospadias, undescended testes, vesicoureteral reflux, and urinary obstruction. Medical issues include incontinence and urinary tract infections. Urological care of spina bifida is another large area of my focus. As a surgeon, I am able to use my hands and harness the creative parts of my mind toward that goal. Working with children is a joy and keeps me young and on my toes. Having three children of my own keeps me grounded and makes me individualize the plan for each patient as I would want for my own child. I feel fortunate to be at Duke where I am surrounded by brilliant colleagues and curious students. This stimulation drives me to strive to be my best and to conduct research that will benefit my own patients and similar children worldwide.
