Dr. Austin D. Rutledge is a neonatologist who provides care to critically ill newborn infants with a particular interest in developmental care and assessment. Dr. Rutledge attended Transylvania University in Lexington, KY where he earned a bachelor of arts degree. He obtained his medical degree from the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of Pikeville in Pikeville, KY. He then moved to Charleston where he completed his pediatric residency and neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship here at the Medical University of South Carolina. He joined MUSC faculty in 2024. Dr. Rutledge's clinical and research interests focus on developmental care and assessment of the highest risk infants as well as early childhood neurodevelopmental outcomes. During training, he was honored to receive the Dilip M. Purohit, MD Neonatology Award bestowed by the MUSC Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine faculty for outstanding performance and contribution to neonatal care during residency and the Neonatology Provider of the Year Award bestowed by his peers during fellowship. He is board certified in pediatrics and board-eligible in neonatal-perinatal medicine.
