Overview
Growing up in small-town Oklahoma, most people I knew had difficulty navigating the health care system. Many did not even have a primary care doctor. I am passionate not only about getting to know my patients as their primary care doctor but also about partnering with them and making their medical care more transparent through education and plain conversation. As a medical student in Oklahoma, I spent much of my time working in free clinics for the uninsured and underserved, particularly with patients from immigrant communities and with limited English proficiency. Here in Durham, I am excited to learn more about all of the communities here, while promoting equitable and quality health care. In my free time, I enjoy distance running, trying new restaurants and specialty coffee shops, and exploring the local arts scene. I also study languages. I have a Bachelor's degree in Spanish literature and learned basic French and Portuguese before study abroad experiences to Auvergne and Rio de Janeiro in college.
