Overview

I am a pediatric rheumatologist and take care of children who have rheumatic diseases and autoimmune diseases. Some of the diagnoses we take care of include juvenile arthritis, lupus, localized scleroderma, dermatitis, and inflammatory eye disease. Kids are very inspiring, and in this field you have the chance to affect them for the rest of their lives. I was drawn to pediatrics almost immediately in medical school. My approach is to partner with parents as they handle care for their child, talking through why their kid needs treatment, the benefits and risks, and working with the whole family as they undergo treatment. Duke is one of the largest centers in the southeast for pediatric rheumatology. We have an active fellowship program, so we are always staying current with the latest treatments, which benefits the patient in the end.

Dr. Egla is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics, Pediatric Rheumatology. She is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 1 peer reviewed article.

I treat children and adolescents who have gained weight too quickly and have health problems associated with weight. My research focuses on helping children live their healthiest life possible through nutrition, activity, and engagement in community activities. I have expertise in childhood nutrition issues including obesity in children and teenagers. It is such a privilege to be a part of families' lives. I have a special interest in patient-centered communication and am passionate to see physicians, patients, and parents communicate with each other to meet their mutual goals. I am a pediatric nephrologist and work with children with kidney disease. Some of the conditions that we see include congenital malformations of the kidney and the bladder, nephrotic syndrome, glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the kidney filters), and children who are on dialysis or who received kidney transplantation because of kidney failure. I listen carefully to parents when they bring their children to the clinic because they know their children better than any other person, and they are the best advocates for their child. I collaborate a lot with the other doctors in the clinic. Rest assured, when you visit our clinic and I am not around, the doctor who is seeing you knows everything about your child. This is a group practice with a very caring multidisciplinary team. Dr. Gbadegesin is highly rated in 9 conditions, according to our data.
