Overview

Caleb Kitcho, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatric critical care physician. He cares for children who are very sick and need special treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Dr. Kitcho is passionate about helping young patients and their families during some of the most difficult times in their lives.Dr. Kitcho treats many serious conditions in children, including breathing problems like severe asthma, pneumonia and viral infections. He also cares for children who have been injured or have other serious health issues, such as diabetes or heart problems. Dr. Kitcho a clinical instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health where he is involved in research on bioethics, focusing on how to make the best decisions for critically ill children, especially at the end of life. When it comes to patient care, Dr. Kitcho believes in teamwork. He works closely with nurses, doctors, and families to make sure every child gets the best care possible. He knows that being in the ICU can be scary, so he brings a calm and caring presence to help families feel supported. He listens carefully to patients and families because he believes their voices are important in the healing process.Outside of work, Dr. Kitcho enjoys riding his bike, cheering for the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees and staying active. He’s also a big fan of Pokémon, a hobby he’s loved since childhood. He often uses these interests to connect with his young patients and help them feel more comfortable. My hope for each patient is that they make a full recovery and get back to doing what kids should be doing—playing, laughing, and just being a kid again.
