Dr. Charles Cox Jr

An honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Charles Cox earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch-Galveston. He completed residencies in pediatric surgery at the University of Michigan, general surgery and surgical critical care at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth), and burns/trauma at Shriners Burn Hospital in Galveston. Dr. Cox is the Children’s Fund, Inc., Distinguished Professor of Pediatric Surgery and directs the Pediatric Surgical Translational Laboratories and Pediatric Program in Regenerative Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. He also directs the Pediatric Trauma Program at the UTHealth/Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center. His clinical interests include complex re-operative abdominal and thoracic surgery in children and his research focuses on stem cell therapies for neurological injuries. In practice in Houston since 1996, Dr. Cox treats children up to 18 years old and adult patients with congenital problems. He manages highly complex, multi-disciplinary problems in children, providing long-term continuity of care for complex conditions. The Bellaire resident is married and the father of two sons and two daughters. His favorite leisure activity is cycling.
