Dr. Cynthia L. Haq is a board-certified UCI Health family medicine physician who also serves as chair and professor in the UCI School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine.She earned her medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, followed by an internship and residency in family medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in Madison.Haq has devoted her career to promoting health equity and increasing access to primary healthcare for disadvantaged populations. She has led programs to recruit and train physicians and health professionals to work in areas with shortages of health professionals in the United States and in low-income nations around the world. She helped launch the first family medicine residency programs in Pakistan, Uganda and Ethiopia and has worked extensively with the World Health Organization and governmental and nongovernmental organizations. She is the recipient of two Fulbright scholarships for her work in Pakistan and Uganda.Her research includes the design and evaluation of medical education and family medicine programs to prepare physicians for work in low-resource settings, in doctor-patient communication, gender equity, social accountability in medical education. These programs also the integration of clinical medicine and public health, health advocacy and community engagement. She was the founding director of the Global Health Institute at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she also created and directed the Training in Urban Medicine and Public Health (TRIUMPH) program.Haq sees patients inAnaheimandSanta Ana.
