Dr. Grimberg had the privilege to work under the tutelage of Dr. John G. Kral in medical school, who inspired both his passion for surgery and passion to combat the growing obesity epidemic. Presenting his research at The Obesity Society and ASMBS conferences in Boston and Atlanta exposed him to novel concepts in obesity research with clinicians and basic scientists around the world. Throughout his surgical residency, he has strived to attain mastery in pre-operative, post-operative care, and optimal surgical technique in open, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Dr. Grimberg had the pleasure to perform many advanced laparoscopic, robotic and bariatric surgeries at Hackensack University Medical Center. The centers expertise in bariatric surgery along with the high volume of cases, has also allowed him to perform extensive data analysis and outcomes research to further improve patient centered care. During his bariatric surgery fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, he primary performed revisional and emergency bariatric surgery under the guidance of Dr. Michael A. Schweitzer, a worldwide leader in innovative bariatric surgery.Throughout his medical training and in his personal life, he has met people who suffered from obesity and its many co-morbidities. The changes that bariatric surgery can provide these patients is awe-inspiring. Patients who were previously bedridden are now able to go back to work and play catch with their grandchildren in the park. Those affected by multiple medical problems now must take few, if any, medications daily and their long-term survival is improved. The miracle of bariatric surgery is the long-term lifestyle changes that patients can learn to maintain afterwards due to change in physiology. No other single surgical procedure can potentially cure so many chronic medical conditions! Taking a direct part in the pre-operative and post-operative care of these patients has shown Dr. Grimberg that this is a unique population with its own set of challenges, but it gives him great personal and professional satisfaction to assist them with this transformation.Minimally invasive surgery is a field that is constantly innovating, incorporating new devices, technology and techniques in order to improve patient outcomes and push the boundaries of feasibility.
