I chose to pursue a career in the medical field because I like to be part of a team striving toward the same goals -- helping a patient feel better and overcoming obstacles.What I want my patients to know about me:I have been a physician assistant since 1999. I have spent 15 years of my career providing emergency medicine and urgent care. I have always had an interest in orthopedics, so in 2010 I started working in an acute orthopedic injury clinic part time. In 2012, I decided to join an orthopedic practice full-time where I continued to take care of acute orthopedic injuries and spine. Recently I joined WellSpan orthopedics part time and continue to learn more about managing acute orthopedic injuries. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Richard Richards helping with acute trauma.What I do when I'm not seeing patients:When I am not working, I stay very busy as a wife and mother to my 3 children. We enjoy baseball, basketball, camping, golf, softball and swimming. The benefit of being on a team whether it be at work or at play is very important to me. The team concept has taught me some very valuable life lessons.

I initially set out to be a laboratory scientist earning an MS and PhD. During my time with the department of surgery at the University of Tennessee performing trauma/critical care research, I realized I preferred the personal connection physicians had with patients than performing laboratory work as a scientist. Thus, I decided to attend medical school. What I want my patients to know about me:Originally from Baltimore, I received my medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed my orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Maryland Medical Center and R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. I then completed a sports medicine fellowship at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, where I assisted in the care of the Baltimore Ravens and Washington Nationals. I currently serve as the chair of the Department of Surgery at WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital, medical director for WellSpan Rehabilitation in Adams County, and site director for WellSpan Orthopedics-GettysburgWhat I do when I'm not seeing patients:I enjoy spending time with my family and two Newfoundland dogs, watching Baltimore Orioles baseball and University of Tennessee football.
