
Overview
Dr. Denise Chang is an anesthesiologist who cares for children when they need sedation or general anesthesia for surgeries, nonsurgical procedures or imaging studies. She is also a member of UCSF's pediatric specialty team that integrates pain management and palliative care. Chang's research interests include difficult airways (problems with respiratory airflow), the well-being of health care professionals, medical education, patient safety during anesthesia and improving the quality of care during surgery. After earning a bachelor's degree in biology at Duke University, Chang earned her medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, a program of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. At UCSF, she completed a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology. Chang is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, International Anesthesia Research Society, California Society of Anesthesiologists and Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. In her free time, Chang enjoys running, indoor cycling, hiking with her toy poodle, watching Taiwanese TV shows, taking ceramics classes and traveling.
