Elizabeth “Beth” Burnside, MD, is a UW Health radiologist who specializes in breast cancer imaging and a professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She also believes every patient should feel supported by the entire care team, which includes technologists, nurses, radiologists, pathologists, surgeons and oncologists. She sees patient care as a continual learning process and feels that each encounter teaches her something important.Outside of work, Dr. Burnside enjoys activities that help her stay active and support her well-being. She bikes to work, practices yoga and has enjoyed running in the past. Exercise plays a key role in her life and helps her maintain balance and mental health.I believe strongly in listening to my patients and working in partnership with them.

She also performs procedures including image-guided breast biopsies, cyst aspiration, and pre-operative localizations using wires, radioactive seeds, or clips.Dr. Fowler earned her MD and PhD from the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Madison, WI. She completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in breast imaging at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University, St. Louis, MO. She is certified by the American Board of Radiology and is a Fellow of the Society of Breast Imaging (FSBI).Her research is focused on molecular imaging biomarkers to assess early therapeutic response for breast cancer in preclinical and translational clinical studies. She is the principal investigator for research investigating the performance of simultaneous breast PET/MRI using targeted radiopharmaceuticals for estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor.
