Elizabeth Goetz, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatrician who provides care to hospitalized newborns. She is also a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Goetz directs the care of newborns in the hospital nursery. She supports mothers and families and treats conditions present at birth or during an infant’s early days of life.Often, Dr. Goetz treats common conditions including infections, inherited diseases and blood sugar disorders. She also treats jaundice — yellowed skin and tissues from excess bilirubin, an oxygen-carrying chemical in the blood. To support new mothers, she helps them resolve breastfeeding difficulties to promote healthy bonding and nutrition.Dr. Goetz involves families in their newborn’s care, from education to treatment decisions. She has special expertise in helping mothers and newborns after pregnancy-related substance use. She treats newborns with tremors and symptoms of drug withdrawal.In addition to patient care, Dr. Goetz researches problems in newborns such as blood sugar abnormalities, inherited diseases and jaundice. She also studies issues surrounding substance use during pregnancy.Outside of work, Dr. Goetz enjoys reading, yoga, cooking, hiking, biking and spending time with her family.I love caring for babies and families during unfamiliar or vulnerable times. It’s a wonderful way to help new families get started.
Dr. Goetz is board certified in Pediatrics. She is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 6 peer reviewed articles.
