Dr. Ellen Barbouche

Ellen Barbouche, MD, is a UW Health internal medicine doctor and a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Barbouche manages medical conditions for people spending time in rehabilitation. She and her team focus on the details of patients’ medical care during their transition from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility and then on their safe transition home. Dr. Barbouche specifically focuses on patient safety.Dr. Barbouche strives to provide excellent care to all of her patients. She believes it’s essential to listen and communicate well to help patients and set them up for success after their hospitalization.Dr. Barbouche works to maintain and improve the level of care patients receive across all care settings. To this end, she also serves on committees, performs research, and educates nursing staff, medical students and resident doctors. Dr. Barbouche participates in nationwide research that aims to improve the accuracy of medical diagnoses. The research also looks at factors that can improve patient safety during transitions between hospitals.Outside of work, Dr. Barbouche enjoys spending time with her family and friends, as well as staying active outdoors.I became a doctor to help people. Over twenty years in, I still find joy getting to know patients and tailoring excellent care to their needs and abilities.
