Dr. Eric Schmidt

Eric Schmidt, MD has been practicing medicine since 2022, and currently sees patients 18 and up at Saint Joseph Medical Group – Neurosurgery. His areas of interest include neurosurgical oncology and degenerative spinal pathology.Dr. Schmidt is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons and Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society. In his approach to care, he prioritizes listening to patients to best understand their problem and concerns. “Through careful history gathering, examination and imaging review, I am able to determine if surgery will be beneficial and I will discuss this in detail with each patient, including alternative options or approaches,” he said.Dr. Schmidt’s father was an orthopedic hand surgeon, which inspired his interest in the medical field. He chose his specialty because he has always found the nervous system fascinating. “The complex connections and pathways that allow us to perform even simple tasks is humbling and I was drawn to this complexity,” he said. “Carefully planned surgery often allows for a more immediate or direct treatment of pathology that has been debilitating for patients, which I greatly appreciate,”Dr. Schmidt received his medical degree from the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where he was the valedictorian of his class. He served his neurosurgical residency was at the Cleveland Clinic, where he also completed enfolded fellowships in spine surgery and epilepsy surgery.
