Overview
I am involved in the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care of plastic and reconstructive surgery patients. I work closely with the plastic and reconstructive surgery residents and surgeons to provide outstanding perioperative care to ensure your experience is safe and enjoyable. I feel reconstructive plastic surgery is a unique area of medicine where we have the opportunity to change people's lives significantly, and I enjoy being a part of each patient's journey. I became interested in a career in medicine when my mother was diagnosed with MS when I was four. Going to her appointments with her, I was fascinated by the science of medicine and knew I wanted to be able to help patients the way the providers helped my mom. I grew up in the Triangle and have always been a Duke fan! In my spare time, I enjoy watching football and spending time with my family.

I feel very blessed to have a profession that allows me to serve patients with both cancerous and non-cancerous diseases of the head and neck. As a head and neck surgeon, I carefully weigh the risks and benefits of treatment — working with our team to maximize the chance for cure while maintaining the highest quality of life. As a physician, my approach to patient care includes addressing one's physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual needs and well-being. My research endeavors strive to improve the care we provide to patients with head and neck cancers. I have had a research program in tumor immunotherapy. I am active in addressing global health needs, being involved with regular humanitarian mission trips throughout the world. I am also active in training the next generation of surgeons that are able to address and solve challenges in an ethical and virtuous way. I have, along with my colleagues, developed and instituted a virtue-based approach to residency training that will meet this need.
