Overview
Frank A. Maffei, MD, is the chair of Pediatrics for the Geisinger Women and Children’s Institute. Dr. Maffei received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Yeshiva University in New York and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha honors. He completed his residency, chief residency and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He completed a second fellowship in pediatric critical care at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester. He was the University of Rochester Medical School Lowell A. Glasgow Dean’s Teaching Fellow in 2003, and has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in pediatric critical care medicine and pediatric emergency medicine. Dr. Maffei has published and presented extensively in clinically relevant areas of both disciplines, including life-threatening asthma, meningitis, child abuse and overwhelming infections. Dr. Maffei’s areas of clinical interest include central nervous system infections, traumatic brain injury, asphyxial asthma, sepsis and bioethics. In his personal life, Dr. Maffei enjoys running, biking and kayaking. He loves to visit the Bronx in New York, and he roots for the New York Mets.
